It is a tool for the pool. It does a great job rolling up the solar blanket onto an aluminum rod and is of nice quality.
It clamps to the end of the Intex ultra frame rectangular pool & stays there. You could unclamp & remove it for use of the pool but I think that would be a lot of trouble. It's fine with us that it stays on the end without steps and doesn't hinder swimming.
However, there were some issues. It was missing the straight handle that attaches to the other reel. It is needed to secure the nylon roller bearings inside the reel & keep the outer reel plate in place. Otherwise, it falls apart. My husband is the guru of "make it work". He placed 2 washers over the hole where the handle is to go, one big thin washer & the outside one smaller & stiffer to make the larger washer have a dish effect on tightening for pressure.pool solar cover roller He then used a nut & bolt & tightened it until the big washer dished a little. It was easier than sending it back as we decided we did not need the handle to operate the reel anyway.
It works fine now. One other change we made was to simply tape the blanket to the reel using duct tape instead of the clamps & straps they sent. Our blanket is longer than our pool so we were able to leave some on the rod & it works very well. If your blanket is exactly the length of your pool, then you will need the straps.
